Dr. Hsia grew up in Toronto, Canada, and graduated with Honors from the University of Toronto, Scarborough Campus, majoring in Microbiology and Biochemistry.  He went on to complete his medical degree, internship, residency, and an additional 3 years of Fellowship training in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the University of Toronto.  Afterwards, Dr. Hsia spent another 3 years as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of California, San Diego.  He is triple boarded in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, and with the American Board of Clinical Lipidology.  


Dr. Hsia has won multiple awards and grants for both research and teaching from the NIH, the University of Toronto, the Endocrine Society, the American Diabetes Association, UCLA, and Charles R. Drew University.  He is currently both an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and an Associate Professor with the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science in Los Angeles.   From 2004-2005 Dr. Hsia was the Associate Program Director of the Department of Internal Medicine Residency Training Program at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science in Los Angles, CA.  From 2005-2007 Dr. Hsia was the Program Director for the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism Fellowship Training Program at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science in Los Angeles, CA.  

Dr. Hsia has done extensive research and as of 2014 has over 33 peer-reviewed publications and 37 abstracts.  He continues to function as a Principle Clinical Trials Investigator for the National Research Institute in Los Angeles, CA.  He has also given scores of lectures and presentations on various endocrine topics to the general public, medical students, medical residents, Endocrine fellows, community physicians, and academic physician researchers.
